Application for an adjustment in rates:

Northeast Ohio Natural Gas Corp. (“NEO”) has been committed to affordable low-cost natural gas supplies and efficient, safe, reliable service to our valued customers throughout Ohio for nearly 40 years. On March 31, 2023, NEO filed an application with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (“PUCO”) to adjust our rates. NEO seeks to continue to invest in improved infrastructure and create a capital expenditure program to continue to ensure high-quality service to our customers. As a result, NEO asked the PUCO to approve an adjustment to base rates and institute an alternative rate plan. We expect a PUCO decision by year end with new rates expected to go into effect in early 2024.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many customers does NEO serve?
A: NEO serves approximately 34,000 homes and businesses in 26 counties in north, central and eastern Ohio.

Q: Who approves the rates Northeast Ohio Natural Gas is permitted to charge?
A: NEO is a regulated utility, which means the PUCO must approve the rates requested by the utility in a rate case. The PUCO and the Ohio Consumer Counsel (“OCC”) will review the case and discuss the merits of the request. Ultimately, the PUCO determines the final amount granted.

Q: Why are rates changing?
A: NEO seeks to continue to invest in improved infrastructure and create a capital expansion program to continue to bring high-quality service to our customers. As many industries have experienced, the expenses associated with bringing high-quality service to our customers have increased despite ongoing cost control efforts.

Q: How will my residential bill change?
A: A typical residential customer uses approximately 8 Mcf per month. If approved by the PUCO, the rate adjustment will result in an increase of approximately $13.89 per month to a typical NEO service area residential customer’s bill, which is approximately a 15.0% increase. For typical residential customers in the Orwell service area specifically, the rate adjustment will result in an increase of approximately $13.89 per month, which is approximately a 13.8% increase to the total bill amount in that area. These proposed rates are subject to change after the PUCO reviews NEO's March 31, 2023 application. New rates will not go into effect until approved by the PUCO.

Q: When will the rates change on my bill?
A: Changes in rates will not occur until the PUCO reviews and approves new rates. This process typically takes approximately 9 months to complete. New rates are not expected to appear on your bill until early 2024.

Q: Why is Northeast Ohio Natural Gas Corp. asking for an increase in rates?
A: This is our first-rate increase request since 2018 and it is needed to continue to provide safe and reliable service to our customers in Ohio. NEO seeks to continue to invest in improved infrastructure and create a capital expenditure program to continue to bring high-quality service to our customers. As many industries have experienced, the expenses associated with bringing high-quality service to our customers have increased over the last five years despite ongoing cost control efforts.

Q: How can I reach NEO with questions about this rate change request?
A: Our customer service representatives are available to answer your questions. You can reach us at 1-800-237-2099 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
